I'm sitting in the stillness while the world buzzes around me. I'm trying to go slowly as can and rush around trying to get home and open the door to the sanctuary. I breath deeper and slower and promise myself at least half an hour today to stop totally still and to reconnect. It's a tricky balance somedays.
This book settles me, everytime. I hope you can read a little from the pictures. Edith Holden lived in a very different time, - and place. She cycled, she watched the seasons move through the natural environment, the plants and flowers, the animals. It seemed that she was connected to God through nature - one of the simplest ways - and she was at peace.
I'm wondering what her blog would look like today if she was alive. Would she still draw and colour the pictures or would she photograph them and be in a hurry?
From her diary;
March 10th 1906 - When I got to the bottom of the lane, I set my bicycle against a bank and picniced on a fence... I was glad to find the white periwinkle still trailing it's wreathes on the bank; but the flowers were only in bud, and the violets too were uncurling their buds under their fresh green leaves...
