Essential oils have been used in religion & spirituality since time in memorial. To name only a few; anointing oils in the Anglican church are said to represent the Holy Spirit. In Hinduism, Tulsi or Holy Basil is used to annoint the body & used medicinally. India’s Ayurvedic healing tradition routinely uses essential-oil fragrances to obtain the right doshic balance needed for good health. The Aboriginals of Australia use many oils including lemon myrtle & macadamia. Ancient Egyptians really are to be credited for the most complex uses of the oils. To Egyptians, fragrance was of the utmost importance as the goal was divinity. Bathing, anointing and using fragrances would emulate and lead to holiness.
The tell tale signs of spring are here; warm breezes, rainey days, blossoms & jasmine.
Whilst walking the neighbourhood I found an enormous jasmine vine & collected a very pretty & long bouquet. There was enough for a large bowl for the dining table, three small vases - one for each bedroom - & some for the evening bathtime. We also offered them yesterday at the tree puja/worship.
Amma wears a combination of rose & jasmine & those who have hugged her know that scent. After breathing in this lucious frangrance for a couple of days, I decided that I wanted to smell like it all the time & made a springtime perfume.
recipe ~
rose essential oil
jasmine essential oil
jojoba oil
Generally speaking, most rose & jasmine essential oils are already in jojoba oil. The bottles I bought are 11mls. Make half of the bottles to avoid the oils going rancid. Store the remaining 5.5mls in their original bottles. With the combined 11mls of rose & jasmine blend this with 50mls of jojoba & store it in a dark glass jar with a dropper - available at most health food stores.
The benefits of using rose oil are a plenty & include; anti-depressive, anti-septic, anti-viral & is an aphrodisiac. For more information click on the link. The benefits for Jasmine are very similiar but to have a look at a few differences go here. These beautiful scents contain wonderful healing benefits, rose works on anahata chakra - the heart space. Jasmine is more for swadhistana chakra - a sensual & sweet exotic aroma for passion & confidence.
Choose your own essential oil according to your needs, physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually.
