Spirituality & morality is a celebration of the human spirit & a part of all life.
The teaching of values that promote caring people & a caring society will not be left to chance.
Together with our children, our teachings will make a positive & significant difference.
Spiritual nurturing occurs throughout the day in a myriad of ways. It can be done through a response to a child’s comments, a carefully selected story or song, emphatic interactions with our fellows, delighting in a blue sky & the beauty of nature & simply resting in the quietness of the moment.
Parents can help children express & experience their spirituality in what ever way works for them. A good starting point can be for us to see things through a child’s eyes. This will help us see the individuality of every child; whatever makes them happy, what fascinates them & what questions they seek answers for. This process will in turn enhance our own spirituality. Happy children need happy parents & interesting parents create interesting children.
Help children to see that their real values in life lie within themselves & how they treat others & not in what they possess.
Model acceptance & respect for all life – plants, animals, the planet & humans. Help children to see that everyone has something special to offer, this is done by modelling your behaviour.
Help children practise conflict resolution – that life is not about winning & losing but understanding, love & compassion.
Help children not to develop envy – if someone has something better be genuinely pleased for them.
Help children to develop a sense of their own self-direction, a sense of community, confidence, independence & inter-dependence.
Demonstrate respect for the environment & teach children how to care for Mother Earth.
Before they can understand how outside energies work human’s need to understand how they themselves work. Eventually (after 8 years of age) teach them how to sit down quietly & look deeply within (vippassana) to see what is happening.
